NICHOLAS ARMOUR
Nicholas Armour was born in 1951 at York. He was educated at Ampleforth
and Exeter University, where he studied French and a smattering of Italian.
He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1974 and was sent
for Arabic Language Training in Lebanon the following year. Postings abroad
have included:
Beirut (1977-1980)
Athens (1984-1989)
Muscat (1991-1994)
In 1994 he was seconded to the Department of Trade and
Industry, focusing first on transport infrastructure projects worldwide
and then on export promotion to the wider Middle East.
In 1997 he went as Consul General to Dubai.
In 2000 he worked briefly on digital certificates for electronic signatures
with the Royal Mail before becoming Head of the North America Department
at the FCO in London.
In 2003 he joined the Royal College of Defence Studies as Senior Directing
Staff (Civilian).
July 2005 to present he is Consul General in Toronto
and Director UK Trade & Investment, Canada.
He
is widowed and has two daughters, each at university. His interests are
singing, sailing and skiing.
